6th Meeting of the European Policy Planners' Network (PPN)
Religious Instruction and Institutions in Europe
11 - 12 March 2010
Madrid
The Spanish Ministry of Justice hosted the 6th PPN Meeting on “Religious Instruction and the Training of Faith Leaders” on 11 – 12 March 2010. The meeting brought together over 30 policy planners and experts from six countries across Europe to discuss one of the Council of the EU’s key concerns, namely the role of Religious Leaders.
ISD brought a panel of external religious leaders, academics and community figures to provide input to PPN policy planners on the needs of Muslim communities vis-à-vis religious instruction and guidance, the lacunae of existing provision and the potential role for government and EU institutions in this field. The remaining sessions provided opportunities for members to discuss the training needs within their own countries, the current approaches being undertaken at the national level as well as the challenges and successes encountered in this policy area.
