CEDAR and PMI joint event
Including a talk by Kristiane Backer
29 March 2011
Bradford
On the 29th March 2011, The CEDAR Network had the opportunity to work with the Professional Muslims Institute (PMI) in holding a joint networking event. The event saw around 90 Muslim professionals from the Bradford area come together for an evening which included opening remarks by Jordana Friedman and Shazia Nazir from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue and an inspirational talk from Kristiane Backer, former MTV presenter, author of ‘From MTV to Mecca’ and CEDAR Network member. The collaboration was developed after the two organisations connected at the CEDAR Network Gala in Madrid in October 2010 and began exploring avenues for providing further professional networking opportunities.
The event was hosted by the PMI at Anam’s restaurant in Bradford and welcomed around 90 local Muslim professionals. The evening began with a drinks reception followed by a talk by Kristiane Backer, who shared her experiences of being a Muslim professional and encouraged the individuals present to fulfil their potential. ISD’s Deputy Director, Jordana Friedman, spoke about the CEDAR Network’s vision and invited those present to join and access the Expert Finder to contact professionals from across Europe. The speakers were given a warm reception and were engaged in a stimulating question-and-answer session, generating discussions which continued over a traditional Kashmiri dinner.
The CEDAR Network was delighted to be a part of the event and looks forward to collaborating with PMI and other similar organisations in the future. For more information on the Professional Muslims Institute and to view photos of the event please visit: www.pmi.org.uk
