Weidenfeld Debate: Security, Power and Terrorism in South Asia
Second in the series
25 February 2010
Magdalen College, Oxford
This second Weidenfeld Debate discusses the questions of security, power and terrorism in South Asia within the context of the shift of power toward the East. The debate will analyse the scope and limits of Western involvement in South-Asia and discuss the potential engagement of regional and emerging powers (eg. China, India and Russia) in the region. The further aim of the discussion is to lead to a better understanding of the West's security policy in one of the politically most volatile regions as well as to identify key challenges and main areas of mutual interest between the West and the emerging powers in the East.
Speakers and Panellists:
Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, former MEP and current member of the House of Lords
Mr. Rahul Roy-Chaudhury, Senior Fellow for South-Asia, International Institute for Strategic Studies
Professor Victor Korgun, Head of Afghanistan Studies Department, Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Science
Please note this event is open to the public and runs from 18:00 to 19:30.
