Stability in the Balkans
In Cooperation with the Alpbach Forum
7 - 8 April 2006
Vienna
In cooperation with the Alpbach Forum in Vienna, this conference brought together leading politicians from the Balkans, such as President of Serbia Boris Tadić and Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo Lufti Hazin, with other key actors linked to the international effort to secure reconciliation in the region.
The first conference session concentrated on the remaining threats to Balkan security while the second examined co-operation in the Black Sea Region. The meeting concluded that for the European Union to continue influencing the Western Balkans, the EU had to accept the prospect of countries in the region becoming members of the EU itself. It also provided many recommendations for policy makers dealing with the Black Sea region.
