Leadership and Public Policy Seminar
The Leadership and Public Policy Seminar takes place every December over the course of 10 days. The morning political philosophy seminars address the question ‘What constitutes a good society?’ by examining some of the principal qualities which, historically, have been advanced as its defining constituents: among them, responsible government; various forms of equality; efficiency; a respect for human rights; and maintenance of a viable long-term relationship with the natural environment.
The seminar seeks to prompt the participants to critically examine their own attitudes to these questions through their engagement with, and reactions to, a series of ‘classical’ texts (drawn from both Western and Eastern traditions), and through debating these questions with their fellow Scholars.
The philosophical emphasis of these intensive morning seminars is complemented by afternoon sessions, with a practical emphasis on how ideas and principles are applied, given by leaders in a variety of areas of public life.
