Exploring New Vehicles for Strategic Engagement with Russia

Hosted by the Italian Foreign Ministry, this meeting focused on exploring new vehicles for European engagement with Russia including the potential for establishing a Europe Russia Contact Group. Such a group would act as a motor for consensus building within the Union and for the elaboration of a strategic-level European approach to Russia.

The Rome meeting also assessed the state of play and the policy options available to Europe, the US and Russia given recent international developments as well as events in Russia, Georgia and the US. Priorities in energy, trade and security policy were evaluated.
