Security and International Cooperation Programme

This Programme works through research, expert groups, the elaboration of policy strategies and high-level briefings to foster inter-governmental consensus and collaborative approaches to some of the most pressing security challenges of the day from defence co-operation to countering violent extremism.

This Programme includes the following projects and initiatives:

Defence Special Sessions

These sessions bring together leading figures from the defence industry and government primarily from France, the UK and Germany to address Europe’s defence requirements in the face of evolving global threats. More

Intelligence and Policing Project

This Project aims to identify and propose solutions to the major lacunae in operating relations on the one hand between Intel and Police services and on the other hand between security agencies and Communities in addressing domestic threat. More

Research

  • 'Exit strategies: former radicals research' seeks to engage former radicals who have themselves spent time within extremist networks but have now rejected their ideologies and left these groups. More
  • The 'Western Jihadism research project' provides a comprehensive and comparative assessment of the relative importance of social alienation, kinship, political ideology, and extremist religion as the sources for “home-grown” volunteerism to terrorist acts and to Jihad outside Western countries. More
